Together at Joglo Gumuk
Joglo Gumuk was initiated in 2014 by Katia and Faozan, together with the family of Pak Sukarman and Mbak Parsiyem, who own the land, with the intention of creating a new home. It was built from old timber and with the help of local craftspeople from the village, whose skills and knowledge shaped the houses and the place you see today.
What began as our home, with a single guesthouse, has gradually evolved over the years. Small garden pavilions, a coffee roastery and a movement studio were added along the way, followed by a second guesthouse in 2023. The rest of the land is left to nature, which we see as the foundation of Joglo Gumuk.
Today, our team is made up of the extended family of Pak Sukarman and Mbak Parsiyem, along with collaborators from the village. Together we welcome guests, care for the gardens and traditional houses, prepare meals, and share our knowledge of the surrounding landscape and culture.
From the very beginning, our aim has been to grow Joglo Gumuk in partnership with the people who live here. By working together, we hope to create a place that supports the local community while offering guests an opportunity to experience the everyday life of rural Java.
We believe that meaningful hospitality grows from long-term relationships—with the people, the landscape and the traditions that make this place unique.
